The remake of the iconic shooter XIII is getting a re-remake

XIII, the iconic comic-styled first-person shooter is being remade… again. Following a disastrous remake attempt in 2020 by PlayMagic, publisher Microids wants to give it another shot (no pun intended). The honors of remaking the remake are given to the Frenchies at Tower Five.

Yeah, remaking XIII didn’t really turn out the way Microids had intended. If you wanna fill big shoes, half-assing it ain’t the way to do it. And without being too hard on PlayMagic – who were probably really trying but just couldn’t handle the task – 2020’s XIII did end up to be kind of a dumpster fire. Fortunately, publisher Microids feels responsible for the effed-up launch. So hey, let’s try to turn that frown upside-down by fixing it, is what Microids CEO Stéphane Longeard suggests.

“We are fully aware and terribly sorry that the initial launch of XIII Remake on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC did not reach players’ expected quality standards.

A bit more than a year ago we took the decision to hire the studio Tower Five to finish the development of the game. Tower Five worked with us in the past, notably on the great port of Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders on Nintendo Switch.

“We really wanted to take the time to fix the game and offer owners of XIII Remake a free update paying the best possible tribute to the original game we all love.

“The Nintendo Switch version of the game will of course benefit from all the work done to improve the game as well as the multiplayer mode, which will mark the end of the game’s development.

“We can’t wait for players to put their hands on this improved version of the game and (re)discover the classic adventures of Agent XIII, as soon as it’s released after the Summer.”

Good luck with that, Tower Five. You’re gonna be in for quite a challenge. Then again, you can’t really make things any worse, I suppose. PlayMagic’s attempt resulted in XIII being the second worst reviewed title of 2020, according to Metacritic. The only game worse than the XIII remake was a $10 Switch game called Tiny Racer. Do you think you can top that?
