Are you a controller freak? No, not a control freak, but a controller freak? Good news, amigo! Sony just shared the images of some new ones, designed for the next-generation PlayStation VR. What do you mean by “what next-generation PlayStation VR”? Do you even check Instakilled from time to time?
Sony is pretty proud to present the PSVR 2.0 controllers, and with good reason. Unlike the PlayStation Move controllers, these actually don’t look like discarded sex toys. I’d even go to the lengths of claiming that they actually look pretty nifty. Then again, looks don’t mean shit. Functionality, now that’s something that spikes our interest.
Luckily, Team PlayStation is willing to explain more about their thingamabobs. For starters, the controllers will have adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. This is hardly surprising, considering that the DualSense controller is equally equipped with this technology. Still, I’m not complaining.
Tracking will also be a thing. The headset will be able to track the controllers through a tracking ring across the bottom of the controller. Let’s just hope this works a lot better than the current tracking method, which sucks donkey balls. Yeah, I said it. Lastly, finger touch detection gets added to the controllers. This will make sure your fingers get detected by the peripherals without even pressing a button. This will come in handy while making hand gestures, so it’s the perfect addition for Italian gamers.
But enough about the functionality. It’s about time to show them to you, so here we go.
So, what do you think? Pretty neat, huh? Before you set off, you’re right about the similarities with other knows VR controllers. Like the – let’s say – the Oculus controllers, both share one thumbstick and two action buttons. A trigger (L2 & R2) and a ‘grip’ button (L1 & R1) are also present, in case you wondered. But then again, those are quite apparent in the pictures.
For now, this is all PlayStation has to share about the new VR Headset, but more will undoubtedly follow. Just don’t expect to see a lot more shortly. Sony already mentioned they’re just getting started with the headset, but that doesn’t matter Sony. We’ll be patient. When you are ready, VR also ready.
