PlayStation boss says PS5 will have more exclusives than ever

PlayStation 5 doesn’t really have much to offer when it comes to exclusive games right now, but there will be plenty of them in the future. According to Jim Ryan – the Big Boss at SIE – PS5 will have more exclusives than any other generation PlayStation. The launch of Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the upcoming Returnal is just a start.

Ryan took the time to have a parlay with Nikkei to share some info that should corroborate these claims. To make sure that PlayStation has the capacity to pump up those exclusives numbers, they’ve “quietly” been investing in first-party software creation. Sony has acquired high-quality studios in the past – like Insomniac – and might just do that again. If they’ll ever gain Microsoft-spending status, only the future will tell.

Of course, Sony has got quite a few games in the pipeline. Returnal is popping up next week and Horizon: Forbidden West should be joining shortly. Then there’s God of War: Ragnarok, which seems to be shrouded in mystery at this point. Rumors of exclusive remakes are also buzzing, with the latest being a PS5 version of The Last of Us.

What striking is that all of these games are coming from the western party of the world. Nikkei obviously has questions about that too. But Ryan crossed his heart and promises that PlayStation isn’t forgetting about its roots.

“It is important for us to provide software that fits the Japanese gaming community, and PS5 has included a lot of software from Japanese developers since its early stages.

“We will continue to strengthen our ties with Japanese developers and release content for PS5 that fits the Japanese market.”

Thanks, Jim. That’s one worry out of the way. Now, let’s just focus on a steady flow of PS5 deliveries, since those are even rarer than PS5 exclusives right now. Oh, by the way… thanks VGC, for translating the Nikkei report. My Japanese isn’t all that. Arigatou gozaimasu!
