WWE 2K22 desperately trying to save face in a new dev diary

The WWE 2K franchise isn’t particularly one with a great rep sheet. Sure, most of the wrestle fanatics get a good time out of it. But let’s be honest, the game series isn’t exactly the pinnacle of a top-quality product. Most critics piledrived the living shit out of WWE 2K20 and WWE 2K21 didn’t even make it out of the locker room. But things are about to change with WWE 2K22. Developer Visual Concepts has been up to something. Can you smell what The Rock’s been cookin’?

I’ll give you a hint. It’s all about saving face. Literally. Visual Concepts has been doing some investing during their sabbatical year. As shown in a dev diary tweet, money has been spent on a state-of-the-art 3D scanning booth. Utilizing eighty high-resolution cameras and new mapping software, scanned versions of botched-up wrestler mugs now contain even more detail. Weirdly enough, John Cena’s scan turned out blank. Go figure.

As you can see, Booker T and Ric Flair already took a seat in the scanning booth. After a few grins and grimaces, their job’s done and Visual Concepts’ job starts. It is now up to them to turn these artists into perfect digital versions of themselves. The developer seems to be confident that they’re heading towards greatness after this major upgrade, so that’s a start.

Then again, this isn’t the first time Visual Concepts has shown off what they’ve been working on lately. In an earlier tweet, the developer shared one of the key components of a WWE 2K game, being the entrance animation. If you cant make an entrance – or animate one – you might as well throw in the towel immediately. So I’ll let you decide. Does Visual Concepts hit the mark?

As for a release date of WWE 2K22, no word has been spoken about it. And frankly, I don’t think anybody cares about it right now. First and foremost, make sure the damn game passes quality control. Then we’ll talk about releasing it. OOOOH YEAH!

Just in case Visual Concepts reads all reports made on their progression, hey there guys! I’d like to make a suggestion, if I may. Do you really want to take people’s breath away with WWE 2K22? Sure you do! In that case, consider adding something like the the video below to your game. It’ll leave fans speechless. Just as speechless as Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage…

Bye.
