The Space Jam reboot nobody asked for is getting a game…

Sometimes you browse the internet and immediately regret doing it. Today was that day for me. I just found out that Space Jam: A New Legacy is getting its own game. I might just literally be the last person on earth to get the memo, but dear god I wish I never got it. But hey, if you’re the owner of an Xbox with a subscription to Game Pass Ultimate and totally into this Space Jam reboot/sequel, this might be a slam dunk for you.

Just to make things clear, I’m not a big fan of this Space Jam rejuvenation thing. I liked the old Space Jam just fine. The one that was made back in the day when Pepe le Pew wasn’t considered improper. So to me, Space Jam: A New Legacy feels like the Space Jam we never asked for. But hey, somebody probably asked for it, right? And I’m pretty sure the same goes for the game that comes with it.

As we can see and read on Xbox Wire, Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game will be a retro-styled side-scrolling beat-’em-up. No b-ballin’, just busting enemies up. Everyone who’s part of the Game Pass Ultimate Perks program will be able to start doing so on July 1. Two weeks later – July 15 – Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game will become available for the entire Microsoft player base. If you feel even slightly curious, here’s a trailer to give you an idea.

Even though I’m not exactly thrilled about this sequel, Microsoft sure seems to be enthusiastic about it. They even went as far as introducing three brand-new special edition controllers. There’s a purple Goon Squad one, a blue and Carrot Orange Tune Squad one, and a black with blue accents one called Serververse.

Space Jam: A New Legacy controllers
  • Tune Squad: Become a member of the Squad and channel your inner Tune with this awesome controller, featuring one of Bug Bunny’s favorite colors – Carrot Orange.
  • Goon Squad: If you’re feeling like a super cyber-baller, pick up the Goon Squad controller, but prepare to face the Tunes on the court.
  • Serververse: Step into the Warner 3000 entertainment “Serververse” with this new out-of-this-world controller.

As for me, I’m still trying to get my head around this Space Jam reboot. Maybe I’m just getting old and that’s why I don’t understand why they’d pick Lebron James for this. Or maybe I’m just too ignorant to understand why A New Legacy could be amazing. I dunno. I just don’t have high “hoops” for this one…
