A good “Smash” would make Sonic’s film director soooo happy

If you’d ask Jeff Fowler – director of both Sonic live-action films – if he “wanna smash?”, he’d tell you he would want nothing but. At least, that’s what he told ComicBook.com. Sort of… As in, he admitted that he’d like to do a Smash Bros movie if given the opportunity. Then again, that’s easy for him to say since that opportunity will very likely never surface unless he lawyers up.

It’s also not that Fowler brought it up himself. The question kinda bubbled up because of Sonic’s cameos in Nintendo’s hit brawler series. Nevertheless, the director acknowledged that the idea of a Smash Bros movie sounds pretty awesome if it weren’t for the legal procedures that are making that nearly impossible.

“Nothing would make me happier than to just throw all the characters into a battle royale and do a big Smash Bros thing. That would probably require some work from the lawyers before that could happen.”

“Getting Mario and Sonic in the ring, I mean everyone would be kinda dying for that, right? That’s just classic”

Frankly, he does have a point. Mario and Sonic duking it out on the big screen… who wouldn’t pay to see that? You’ll get to witness other epic stand-offs, too. Pikachu roasting Donkey Kong’s furry nuts, for instance. Or Kirby sucking on Yoshi’s eggs. That’s some serious M for Mature-rated shit we have on our hands.

But hey, never say never, right? Maybe Nintendo will hop on board after seeing Sonic’s rise to fame on the big screen. I’ve been told that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ain’t too shabby while proving that sequels can be better after all. Did Jeff just break the movie adaptation curse, y’all?
