Change of plans, we’re gonna Return to Monkey Island

If you’re in the middle of planning your summer vacation, hold it for just a sec. A trip to Cancun might be great and all, but how does a Return to Monkey Island sound? If you’re up for it, Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox and Devolver Digital are more than willing to be your tour guide this year.

What sounded like an April Fool’s joke on a personal blog, turned out to become reality after all. Ron Gilbert, one of the brilliant minds behind the very first Monkey Island game, is in fact working on a return to the franchise. And if Devolver Digital has anything to say about it, we’ll be making our Return to Monkey Island this year.

It’s actually quite remarkable that Gilbert is on board with all of this. After making The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, Ron pulled out in search of greener pastures. But “The Curse of Monkey Island” (wink wink) beacons him once more. Even Dave Grossman – also a founding father of the series – is answering the call.

And that’s pretty much all the info that I have for you. I wish I had more to share, but Devolver is pretty mingy when it comes to details. But rest assured. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more as time progresses. It’ll be fun. Five stars on Tripadvisor-fun. Trust me. It’s going to be bananas.
