Resident Evil 4 VR has been stripped of pervy innuendos

“Ashley’s pretty young. We try not to sexualize her”, said no Capcom developer ever. If you can recall the original cut of Resident Evil 4, you might remember that inuendos were a thing. Everybody seemed to have the hots for Ashley and didn’t mind showing that. But in 2021, staring at a girl’s boobs and calling them “ballistics” is virtually a social death sentence. That’s why Resident Evil 4 VR for Oculus Quest 2 does not contain that scene anymore. And that’s just one of the things that got cut.

According to Facebook (as reported by UploadVR), Resident Evil 4 needed to be altered to appeal to a “mature audience”. And if there’s one thing that a mature audience dislikes, it’s sexual innuendos and ambiguous dialogue. The problem is that Resident Evil 4 had quite a bit of that, with the president’s daughter Ashley mostly being at the center of it. Therefore, scenes needed to be altered or stripped altogether.

To be fair, the original cut of Resident Evil 4 did have an abundance of campy one-liners. The one mentioned in the intro was no exception. Leon’s remark, stating that the thought “she’d be a little older” also counts. But Ashely was no stranger to sex talk either, asking Leon to do some overtime at her place.

But those were all tongue-in-cheek one-liners. The fact that RE4 gave players the option of looking up Ashley’s skirt, that’s even more worrisome nowadays. In 2005, Capcom dealt with this by making Ashley cover up her legs and calling you a pervert. But that doesn’t quite cut it anymore, so the scene was stripped in its entirety.

You might think that this is all very patronizing, but can you blame Facebook? I mean, Netflix is already taking heat for some shit that Dave Chappelle said. God knows what that mob will do if these issues weren’t addressed. Staying true to the original versus an angry mob at Zuck’s front door… Tough choice.
