A new Need for Speed has leaked and it won’t cost you a dime

Some like their games like they like their women; fast, easy, and as cheap as possible. Especially for that demographic, Chinese developer Tencent seems to be making a free-to-play Need for Speed game. How do I know? Because Reddit is buzzing with scoops, including a snippet of gameplay. Does that “spark” your interest?

Now, I can hear you thinking: “A new Need for Speed and free-to-play? What’s the catch?” Well… there isn’t any catch, really. But it is a mobile game and it’s probably going to be swarming with ads and microtransactions. But for now, nobody cares. All we care about is the footage, right? Alright, alright, you fuel-sniffing adrenalin junkies, here it is already.

So, what do we know about this mobile NFS? Not much, honestly. I mean, EA hasn’t even confirmed it yet. But apparently, the game’s built on the Unreal Engine 4. And it will definitely include the McLaren F1, Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, and Lamborghini Gallardo since those were already present in the preview build.

But that’s about it for the intel. There’s no news on a release date or anything like that. We don’t even have a name. Then again, the same goes for the premium anime-infused Need for Speed that’s coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X by the end of the year.

In other NFS news, Codemasters’ Cheshire team – responsible for games like Dirt 5 – has joined Criterion Games to create ‘the future of Need for Speed’. This way, EA can keep developing NFS games when Criterion needs to haul ass to help out with other games, like Battlefield 2042.

Welcome to the team, Codemasters!
