Mario is supposedly about to croak and it has the web buzzing

According to persistent rumors, Mario – Nintendo’s red-hatted criminal mastermind – is about to snuff it. People seem to believe that Mario’s end is drawing near. Today’s date (March 31) seems to be key in these rumors. It might seem terribly far-fetched, but let me try to explain.

It all revolves around Mario’s 35th anniversary, which Nintendo celebrates until tomorrow. To commemorate this joyful event, the Japanese publisher came up with two games, being Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Bros 35. At launch, Nintendo reiterated that the games will be removed on March 31. After that, they are never to be seen again on the Nintendo Switch’s eShop.

To add more suspicion, all products linked to Mario’s 35th anniversary are pulled from the stores too. Nintendo made sure everyone knows that. To some, that’s kinda fishy. Why the hell would Nintendo produce all this stuff for this arbitrary duration? Many feel this just doesn’t quite add up. Nintendo making a hurry to remove Mario stuff has to mean he’s about to pay the piper. It just has to be that.

As always, Nintendo isn’t responding to these pending rumors. Then again, who’d believe them? Conspiracy thinkers be conspiracy thinkers. It’s also worth mentioning that tomorrow’s April Fools Day, so we might want to take this with a pinch of salt. Make that an entire bag of salt, will you?
