Koch Media ain’t playin’, but they are PLAION

Koch Media is no more. As of right now, the company will continue to bring us games like Saints Row under a different name: PLAION. Why? Apparently, it’s “to reflect the evolving nature of our business in terms not only of content, but also of geography as we continue our expansion across the globe, we have chosen our new name to better portray who we are and the journey we are taking.” Or maybe they were just sick of people calling it Cock Media.

By renaming the company PLAION, Koch Media retires a name that has been around since 1994. In the past 28 years, Koch Media was the one ballsy enough to bring us games like Saints Row and Dead Island, for which I’m ever so grateful. But times change, and the time of Koch games is over. Now, they’re PLAION games, and I can’t seem to shake the thought that this is a sneaky play on words.

Anywho… a new name means a new identity, and a new identity means a new logo. For Plaion, finding a new logo wasn’t that much of a hassle. Take a green ‘play’ icon and put an abstract ‘p’ in it and voila. A logo is born. At least, that’s how the press release explains it.

Along with the new name comes a new logo that represents the interactive play button, the abstract “P” inside as representation of our new name, and the ribbon symbolizing the embracing and connecting role we as PLAION have as a leader in the digital entertainment ecosystem.

According to CEO and co-founder Klemens Kundratitz (lovely name, by the way), the new name opens up all kinds of possibilities for the company. No more ‘Koching’ around, it’s time to start ‘Plaion’ the long game. Because trust Klemens… Plaion is going places.
