New Hellblade 2 trailer brings us both hope and despair

Ninja Theory has once again given us a glimpse into Hellblade 2 development. In a short montage, the studio shows us what the team has been up to lately, and the results give reason to be hopeful. Unfortunately, this very same trailer also brings some despair. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is far from being done. In fact, it hasn’t even gone into the production stage.

As Tameem Antoniades – the Creative Director at Ninja Theory – explains, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 isn’t going to be just another sequel. The game sets out to do something different, making it an all-new experience altogether. Therefore, this can’t be a simple copy/paste job in an updated graphics engine. Even the game’s setting – Iceland – is different from the previous game. That means that a lot of work has to be done to even get to the production phase. This, unfortunately, means that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is not even close to being released. The wait continues.

To make the wait a little more bearable, Ninja Theory is stoked to show you what has been done already. The team has set out to Iceland to do a fuckton of research, capturing sights and sounds. Melina Juergens – who portrays Senua – has undergone extensive combat training, and so has the stunt team. So yeah, lots of work has already been done, as you can clearly see in the montage below.

In the production stage or not, I’m still very much stoked about Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Ninja Theory knows how to wow people – as proven by Senua’s Sacrifice – and I’m positive that they haven’t lost their touch. It’s just the waiting, you know. It is giving me issues. Not as bad as the mental issues depicted in Senua’s adventures, but still…

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC on God knows when.
