This Scarface 2 concept art tells the truth, even when it lies

“In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the sequels.” Unfortunately, this butchered quote didn’t really work out for Scarface 2, the canned sequel to Scarface: The World Is Yours. Why didn’t it stick like a thick line of yeyo in a clogged-up nostril? Maybe somebody at Radical – the developer of the game – lacked the necessary balls. But hey, at least we now have concept art to show for it.

Well, the truth is that things just got a little complicated. With Scarface: The World Is Yours doing moderately well (except for PC), selling over 2 million copies in total, the ‘money’ part was there. But then the ‘power’ part became an issue. In 2005, Vivendi boss Phil O’Neil was like “you need sequels like these!”, but then seemed to neglect them in the transfer deal with Activision Blizzard in 2008. The rights to Scarface got sold, but a mention of the sequels was as missing as a subordinate drug runner. Even when the rights were sold back to Universal Pictures, sequels were apparently snuffed out.

But now, nearly 13 years after its cancelation, images have been emerging from the deep. The block of concrete slipped off the foot and concept art has been surfacing. Thanks to a YouTube channel called Mafia Game Videos, we’re now able to feast our eyes on them. Accompanied by some appropriate Scarface-themed music, artwork, prototypes, and everything in between is there for the taking. So take it. The Video Is Yours.

If you’re not in the mood for music or you just wanna watch images without having to pause a video every few seconds, there’s also tweets. Because that’s what’s coming to you. The tweets, and everything in it.

Such a shame though. This might have been something great. All I wanna know is this: who’s the one that I can point my fucking finger at and say “that’s the bad guy”? Oh well, at least we’ll be getting another Mafia game, so I’ve heard…
