Resident Evil 4 resurrects on new-gen in 2023

Well, it’s official. Resident Evil 4 is getting a new-gen treatment, just like its predecessors. Starting March 24, 2023, Leon S. Kennedy will start kicking Las Plagas-infected residents in crispy clear resolutions.

According to publisher Capcom, it won’t be just another overhaul. The studio will take the opportunity to “introduce modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics”. Apparently, people have been keeping their mouths shut since 2018, but now’s the time to finally talk. Because Edvin Edso said so.

“We are excited to finally be able to talk about Resident Evil 4!

“Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the 2005 game Resident Evil 4. When it first came out, Resident Evil 4 revolutionized the Resident Evil franchise with its new game style that combined action, shooting, and resource management elements, subsequently setting the standard for future Resident Evil titles.

“This time, the game is being developed to achieve state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suitable for 2023, while preserving the essence of the original game. We aim to make the game feel familiar to fans of the series, while also providing a fresh feeling to it.

“This is being done by reimagining the storyline of the game while keeping the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics, and updating the controls to a modern standard.”

I’m just curious to see if the new-gen version of RE4 sticks to its roots. Given the fact that Ashley pretty much got portrayed as predator bait, some lines might be tossed. And then there’s that stuff with the copyrighted textures. Oh well, I’m sure Capcom got its stuff sorted out by now.

Terror will start creeping towards your PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC starting March 24, 2023. Better start stocking up on them herbs and first aid sprays, y’all.
