Need For Speed set in fake Chicago will look “sugoi desu ne”

If you’re of the opinion that my latest Need For Speed rumor wasn’t a totally useless piece of shit, I might have something interesting for you. According to Jeff Grubb – who seems to know everything nowadays – it’s going to look pretty “naisu”. If you didn’t get that reference, keep reading. It’ll make sense, I promise.

Speaking on his premium Giantbomb show Grubbsnax, the Grubb talks Need For Speed esthetics. Apparently, Criterion seeks to target both graphical realism- and anime-lovers alike, mixing both styles to create one unique vibe.

“It’s going to be photo-realistic, but it’s going to have on top of that, anime elements.

“You know when you see a car commercial or something like that and the car’s driving around, but then cartoons flames and stuff are flying off it? That’s the kind of the aesthetic that they seem to be going for.”

A rumored location was also mentioned by El Jeffe. Based on Chigaco – the Windy City – Need For Speed will have us ruining tarmac in a place called Lake Shore City. If there’s one thing that Criterion wants to achieve here, it’s making LSC feel as real as it can be. He didn’t specify if that meant getting stuck in traffic all the time…

In case you missed out on the previous NFS rumors, it’s said that the next installment is currently warming up its tires for a hot launch in November. If you’re still going at it on old-gen hardware, you can forget about all of this altogether. Apparently, EA only seeks to target PS5 and Xbox Series X owners.
