Modder do what Rockstar don’t, fixing the GTA Trilogy

Rockstar Games – the studio once praised for delivering gold with every game they pooped out – is slowly losing its “golden nugget” status. With fans eagerly anticipating the high-profile remaster of the GTA Trilogy, Rockstar dropped the ball massively on this one. Not only did the development team fumble the codes- leaving secret info in – it also fails to impress its posse. Poor performance, a metric fuckton of spelling errors, and rain that’s even more annoying than actual rain. Fortunately for us, some of these things are being fixed already. Just not by Rockstar, but by modders.

First of all, I didn’t even play the game and the poor state of it is all I’ve been talking about this weekend. I’ve talked to guys who feel robbed by Rockstar, putting the irony into the franchise’s title. The GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition is nothing short of thievery since Rockstar doesn’t allow you to buy the originals anymore. I know that remastering old games doesn’t always meet the expectation of modern-day gamers, but damn son. This is hard to look at.

Fortunately, there’s a big community of modders that’ll sometimes right a wrong. Instead of turning Lamar into a fuckin’ noot-nooting yee yee ass Pingu, they’ve actually made some much-requested improvements already. Like rain, to name one example. Rain is mostly annoying in any situation, but the rain in GTA Trilogy really soaks ass. That’s why GTATrilogyMods has already fixed that by making it more transparent. They’re even offering this improvement for free on Patreon.

And this is just one of the things that modders are taking on. People are diligently at work to make hidden tracks available again since the source code clearly shows that those are merely being skipped by the game. Then there’s the case of wonky outlines that has people trippin’. It’s all being taken care of. Just not by the party you’d be expecting it from. Oh Rockstar, why did you do this to yourself?
