Metal: Hellsinger will make you cry when angels deserve to die

“Wake up! Grabagunandwinthedemonslaycup.” This, or something else indistinguishable might come to The Outsiders’ rhythm-based FPS Metal: Hellsinger. Why? Because angels deserve to die. And because of the ever-recognizable voice of SOAD frontman Serj Tankian that’ll be added to the game’s soundtrack. See? He doesn’t only eat seeds as a pastime activity. Even though “he wanted to!”

If none of the SOAD-based puns above makes any sense to you, I’m sorry for you. That means you probably don’t even know who Serj Tankian is and that makes me sad. Serj is only the frontman of System of a Down, one of the most influential metal bands in my 39-year life. With smash hits like Chop Suey!, Toxicity, and the more recent Genocidal Humanoidz, SOAD has made its mark in the musical landscape and so has Serj. People familiar with cellist Tina Guo might also know Serj’s voice, be it in a far less metal-ish way.

But hey, we’re here to talk metal so metal it is. Metal: Hellsinger, to be exact, is a rhythm-based shooter currently in development at The Outsiders, a team led by FPS veteran David Goldfarb. Like Serj, David has been around and knows his stuff. Previously working on Payday 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield: Bad Company2, he’s no newbie. And all that experience has brought him to Metal: Hellsinger, which can be described as DOOM on a beat.

Now, don’t get mixed up here. It ain’t that DOOM. There’s no trace of Mick Gordon in Metal: Hellsinger, but other prominent figures are. Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Matt Heafy (Trivium), and Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) aren’t too shabby either. And let’s not forget Serj. Who can forget about Serj?

When can we expect those soothing voices to guide us through our demonic onslaught? Soon. As in “later this year” soon. So get ready for this System of a DOOM experience to hit you on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
