PlayStation Studios seems to be buying Kojima Productions

Both Microsoft and Sony are on a royal buying spree lately. It’s the latter that seems to have the next acquisition pending, and the item in the shopping basket could be the Death Stranding developer. How do I know? Because PlayStation Studios is hiding Kojima Productions assets in plain sight. Dig a little into their website, and you’ll discover that there’s more than meets the eye.

Admittedly, I’m not the first one to spot it. Someone on Resetera beat me to it. But after doing some digging of my own – using Chrome’s DevTool – apparent hints that the Death Stranding developer is soon to be a PlayStation Studio are right there. If you head on over to the PlayStation Studios page, this is what you’ll see:

At first glance, nothing spectacular. But if you’ve started to know this banner by heart, you’ll notice a slight deviation on the far left side. That tiny brown triangle-shaped thingy used to be the image of Concrete Genie, but it’s quite indistinguishable now. And that’s where Google Chrome’s DevTool comes in handy.

Browsing through the gmedia.playstation.com folder, the full banner can be viewed, which shows us exactly what that brown triangle-shaped thingy really is. And whaddayaknow… surprise, motherfucker. Sam Bridges. Awww yissss…

If this doesn’t mean that PlayStation Studios struck a deal with Kojima-san, I don’t know what would. Plus, it wouldn’t even come as a total surprise. PlayStation’s big cheese – Jim Ryan – has been telling everyone that he’ll be buying studios left and right, with Bungie and Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios being the most recent acquisitions. And, PlayStation and Kojima have been BFFs ever since Death Stranding got released.

But there is still that alleged Microsoft project that Kojima could be working on. According to Giantbomb‘s very own Jeff Grubb, that deal is still on the table.

“As of a couple of weeks ago, the Xbox and Kojima deal was still on. This isn’t based on the information I had last year, this is more recent than that. This is still on. Does this mean that PlayStation couldn’t have acquired Kojima Productions? Not necessarily”.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. But if my suspicions are correct – and it sure seems like they are – we’ll be hearing from PlayStation Studios fairly soon.
