Hangar 13 is making a Mafia game we can’t refuse

It’s official now. Hangar 13 – a studio familiar with the renowned Mafia franchise – has confessed that it’s working on a new installment. To keep the Don happy, General Manager Roman Hladík refrained from spilling more details. I guess he’s not a big fan of concrete shoes and extra breathing holes.

And just like that, another rumor partially gets sent to the realm of confirmed hearsay. Earlier this year the scuttlebutt at Kotaku already had it that the Mafia 3 developer had another game in the works. The word on the street was that the project was named Nero and that it was a prequel being developed on the Unreal Engine 5.

Just keep in mind that Hladík’s story doesn’t necessarily confirm every Mafia rumor put out there by Kotaku. Yes, there’s a Mafia game in the works and it’s still in early development. But that’s about it for now. No, really. That literally is all we have on it.

“While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”

Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, Hangar 13 pulls their act together for this one since Mafia 3 didn’t really do the trick for some. People were mostly disgruntled that the game focused on the black mafia instead of fan favorite Vito Scaletta. You could almost say that hardcore fans wanted the ‘black man’ out.

Ironically, back in May, the black man did move out. Haden Blackman, to be exact. The Hangar 13 studio head parted ways with 2K “to pursue his passion at a new endeavor.” He got replaced by Nick Baynes, another studio head from the Brighton department.
