Gotham Knights drops PS4 and Xbox One like they’re villains

Bad news for all you old-gen Gotham crime fighters out there. Gotham Knights is no longer coming to PS4 and Xbox One. Warner Bros Games issued a statement on the game’s FAQ page, explaining how this choice was made for the greater good.

As always, the old-gen sacrifice is necessary to ensure the best possible experience for the players that do get to play Gotham Knights. With expectations rising to unknown heights, a game developer can’t risk any kind of restriction. Ask Respawn, who has been to this rodeo recently with Star Wars Jedi 2. That’s just the way it is, people. If we want a true next-gen experience, we gotta let go of the old tech.

“To provide players with the best possible gameplay experience, the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and will not be available for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles.”

Now, I know this might come as bad news to some, but there’s also some good news here. Unfortunately, it’s only good for those unaffected by the previous news. Gotham Knights has a new release date: October 25, 2022. Plus, WB is kind enough to grant us access to a 14-minute gameplay video. And I’m kind enough to share it with you right now. Yeah, yeah… I know. Not all heroes wear capes.

Last but not least, Gotham Knights is also getting a Deluxe Edition and a Collector’s Edition. Get ready for some “exclusive gear, cosmetics, Beyond Suitstyle character skins inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series, and more”. Those interested in the CE are getting all that and then some. With “then some” being “an augmented reality collectable pin,16-page media book, exclusive Gotham City map, four-characters statue diorama, and more”.
