This is EA Sports FC, the second-most authentic soccer sim

It has finally been confirmed: EA and FIFA have parted ways. As predicted by almost everyone with know-how, the FIFA franchise will now move on as EA Sports FC. FIFA (the organization). in turn, has made plans for a game of its own. I can’t wait for EA and FIFA hooligans to go at each other in 2024.

I know, half of this intro is semi-old news. The brotherly bond between FIFA and EA has been on loose screws for a while now. EA believes that FIFA is doing them over by charging insane licensing fees and FIFA thinks that EA is being a selfish asshole. We all knew this breakup was coming and I don’t think anyone’s heartbroken over it anymore.

For EA, nothing is going to change drastically. At least, that’s what CEO Andrew Wilson wants us to believe. The publisher has managed to acquire quite the rep and has the manpower to keep going at it. With over 19,000 players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums, and 30 competitions in its digital pocket, chances are that EA Sports FC will be just another authentic soccer sim.

Then again, footballing body FIFA begs to differ. They’ve made plans of their own. With the EA leash untethering after FIFA 23, other developers are free to intercept. And according to FIFA, plenty of them are creative enough to beat EA at their game. In fact, FIFA President Gianni Infantino is making some bold claims, promising gamers that ‘the only authentic, real game with the FIFA name will be the best one available’. So suck it, EA.

“I can assure you that the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans. The FIFA name is the only global, original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25 and FIFA 26, and so on – the constant is the FIFA name and it will remain forever and remain THE BEST.”

“The interactive gaming and esports sector is on a path of unrivaled growth and diversification. FIFA’s strategy is to ensure we can make the most of all future options and ensure a wide range of products and opportunities for gamers, fans, member associations, and partners.”

Man, I really can’t wait for cyber hooligans to taunt each other and start throwing fireworks at each other. Too bad FIFA and EA are gonna make me wait for at least two years…
