Sands are shifting for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake

The development for the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has been blown over to Montréal. As posted on Twitter by publisher Ubisoft, the remake will now be in the hands of its original studio. It might be sa(n)d news for Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, but I guess the sands of time have run out for the Indian studios.

But alas, it means that the development is going through another setback. Since its original announcement in 2020, the game has gone through several delays already. With an original January 2021 release date in mind, this remake is well overdue. So to make sure that things go smoothly from now on, Ubisoft had to draw a line in the sand. Bringing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time back to its cradle – Ubisoft Montréal – sounds like a good start.

“The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, the very birth place of the epic Sands of Time Trilogy.”

“This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready.

“We want to thank you for your continued support and patience throughout the development. Rest assured, that we will update you on the progress in a future update.”

Let’s hope that Ubisoft Montréal won’t be pounding sand with this one. The game’s announcement didn’t really go down well with the fans because of its “unique visual treatment”. Then again, sand and fans don’t go well together. Ask any nomad.

By the way, did you know that another Prince of Persia game might be currently in development at Ubisoft Montpellier? It supposedly draws inspiration from Moon Studios’ Ori series. I personally can’t wait to see more of that. Oh… and my apologies for all the sand in this post. Wait, let me get that for you…
