CD Project announces the coming of an ‘Epic’ Witcher game

With all that Cyberpunk bullshit going on for the past year, you’d almost forget that CD Projekt has more franchises under its belt. Remember The Witcher, starring that grumpy gray dude? That’s also theirs, and the Polish dev has some news regarding that series.

And news they have, because a new installment is currently in the works at CD Projekt. Details are pretty scarce at this time, but the known ones are stirring up the community already. Do you think you’re ready for it? Aight… here it goes: it’s going to run on the Unreal Engine 5. Not CD Projekt’s old trusty REDengine.

“We’re happy to announce that the next installment in The Witcher series of video games is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise.

“This is an exciting moment as we’re moving from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant.

“We’ll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences.”

This collab with Epic is the thing that’s raising some eyebrows here and there. People are already worried about possible EGS exclusive deals. According to CD Projekt, those worries are totally unnecessary.

Okay, cool. Would be weird anyway, given the fact that CD Projekt has a digital storefront of its own. You know, GOG.com. Anyway, more deets will follow surely. I’ll keep you posted as they trickle in.
