[BLOG] Call a plumber, Ubisoft. See, a leak. Leaks everywhere

Summer is approaching, and you all know what that means, right? Yeah, game announcements are being prepared by all major Triple-A publishers. Except for Ubisoft. Ubisoft usually doesn’t have a need for big surprises anymore, since those will leak out in advance anyway. I’d like to call them Ubi leaky weeks. As is the case right now, because Ubi-projects are leaking left and right as we speak. Somebody get a plumber on the phone ASAP. Ubisoft has a serious case of the leaks.

Starting off with ‘Project Q’, another battle royale-ish attempt of the French publisher. That’s right, another. In case you have forgotten about it, Ubisoft had one of those not too long ago, namely Hyper Scape. And then, all of the sudden, it got pulled. There was a brief ‘thank you for your input’ and that was it. A vague ‘we have learned a lot from this’ sort of hinted towards another go at Ubisoft, and that go has now surfaced in the form of a leak.

As with virtually every leak in the history of Ubisoft, it all started with closed test footage. Since NDAs don’t mean shit nowadays, this stuff was bound to happen. It eventually resulted in a video that got picked up fast. And because I’m in the most generous mood today, I’ll join in on the spreading (#titleofmysextape)

Fortnite much, Ubi? Anyways, Ubisoft ain’t no dumbass either and picked up on the leak itself. And that’s why we now know that this is legit. The publisher has now acknowledged its authenticity on socials, where it also wants to emphasize that it isn’t a battle royale but a PVP Battle Arena game.

According to pro leaker Tom Henderson, Project Q is currently in development at Ubisoft Bordeaux, known for providing support for Rainbow Six and Assassin’s Creed games. If you want to stay updated, feel free to give Project Q’s website a visit.

Speaking of Assassin’s Creed, there’s another leak bursting at Ubisoft HQ. While the Frenchies are hard at work patching the hole that Project Q left behind, an AC one sprung right next to it. According to a Reddit thread started by Echiketto, Ubi’s working on an Assassin’s Creed VR title named Nexus. A beta build apparently leaked a few weeks back, which is now the source of a little bit of footage. It’s just a game menu and a mission select screen, but hey… it beats seeing nothing.

As Echiketto explains, Assassin’s Creed Nexus won’t be open-world oriented, but rather linear. Fighting off others is timing-based, making you wait for the perfect opportunity to make your kill. That killing is done with a sword, throwing knives, a crossbow, or a hidden blade (obviously). Smoke bombs should also be a part of your attire.

But what about parkour? Of course, there will be parkour! The day where The Office has more parkour in it than Assassin’s Creed is the day I will get all my AC tattoos removed. According to our insider, parkour is achieved by holding down a button and walking towards climbable objects.

Yeesh, Ubisoft, you’ve had quite a rough leak… week. Then again, you won’t have to rush to still make a grand E3 presence since that ain’t happening in the first place. Maybe take EA’s approach to heart and show something when you actually have news to show. Or… and just hear me out now… leak it. Seems to be working just fine for the last decade or so.
