The Mirage is real, Ubi confirms the new Assassin’s Creed

Following a stream of rumors and recent leaks, Ubisoft has revealed Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Formerly referred to as Rift, Mirage likely follows Basim in the early days of his thieving career. Ubisoft very likely chose to disclose Mirage after leaked images of “The Forty Thieves Quest”, which both hint at some DLC and seem to confirm the Arabic setting.

May I kick the celebrations off by saying HALLE-FUCKING-LUJAH! Is this great news or what? With Assassin’s Creed Mirage now officially confirmed we might start to take the rest of the rumors more seriously. You know, the rumors of going back to basic, more stealth and less RPG, and the fact that we’re heading back to the franchise’s birthing ground. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long for answers. As promised on Twitter, Ubisoft will spill the details on Mirage on September 10.

Alright, since Ubisoft is only giving us confirmation on a name, for now, let’s take a good look at the artwork that came with it. Even though the composition is hella weird (because where did Basim jump from), it does tell us a few things. First of all, Basim’s pose (which seems off, but okay) does strike some similarities with Altaïr’s iconic pre-strike pose. That could be a subtle hint to the stealth tactics for which the first AC games were widely known.

It also seems that we will be getting buildings to climb and an eagle to command if I’m to take the minaret and the silhouette of a bird as hints. Lastly, the marketplace in the background leads me to believe we’ll be slithering through large crowds again. And if all these speculations turn out to be correct, I’m going to lose my effing shit on September 10.

Until then, remember: Nothing is confirmed, everything is speculated. Apart from the name and setting, of course…
